Going underground at Aldwych tube

I enjoyed a guided tour of the disused Aldwych tube station on Friday, courtesy of my other half and the London Transport Museum, who organised the rare treat. It was an opportunity to see the station, which was closed to passengers on 30 September 1994.

The tour was attended by around 35 people. We were shown the old ticket hall, before being taken down to see the two platforms, one of which I recognised from this scene with Pierce Brosnan and John Cleese – and the invisible car! – in Die Another Day.

The tour guides told us about the history of station, including how it was used during the Second World War (and, as well as the benefits,  the perils of doing so) and how it was also used as a filming location. We took lots of photographs - and here is one of mine from one of the two platforms. More details about these tours from www.ltmuseum.co.uk
